A personal chef service differs from a catering service in that all the food preparation is done in your home rather than prepared in advance in a commercial kitchen and kept at serving temperature until it's served. That means the food is prepared "just in time" -- just in time for you and your guests to enjoy it fresh from the oven or stove.

Here's how the process works when you hire me to help you with a Dinner Party, Cocktail Party or other Special Event:

1. The process begins with an interview. I'll meet with you to discuss your event and your personal preferences regarding the menu: specific food likes and dislikes as well as any allergy considerations or dietary restrictions you may have. I prefer to conduct the interview in your home so that I can get acquainted with your kitchen and understand what basic equipment you have in the way of pots, pans and serving dishes.

2. I don't use standard menus, so menu design is kept both fresh and seasonal, as well as tailored to your preferences. Sometimes the interview will result in an exact menu, but more often than not, I simply gather ideas and then plan a final menu based both on your preferences and what the daily market dictates. I will provide you with a suggested menu for your approval before the event.

3. On the day of your event, I'll do the shopping, choosing only the freshest, highest quality ingredients required for your specific menu. If just a pinch of this or a handful of that is needed, I often supply these things (dry goods or spices) myself, saving you money.

4. At a pre-determined time, I'll arrive at your home to start cooking. In addition to the groceries, I also bring my own knives, linens and special cookware the menu demands.

5. Depending on the type of event, I can either serve it as a sit-down meal or buffet-style.

6. When the event is over, I clean up, leaving your kitchen just as I found it and packaging any leftovers for you. The only evidence you'll have that I was there is the lingering aroma of the wonderful food I prepared and your happy bellies!
